EU Member States commit to cooperating on world-class quantum technologies

On 22 March 2024 twenty-one EU Member States have joined the European effort to make Europe the world’s “Quantum Valley” by signing the “European Declaration on Quantum Technologies”. This took place at a conference co-organized by by the Belgian EU Council Presidency. Launched in December, the declaration underscores quantum technologies’ critical role in enhancing the EU’s scientific and industrial standing. Signatory states agreed to collaborate on creating a leading quantum technology ecosystem in Europe, a core element of the European Commission’s plan for the Digital Decade.

The quantum technologies conference, part of the ambitious quantum flagship initiative, aimed to encourage deeper cooperation among industry, academia, and governments in quantum technology for the next decade—dubbed the “quantum decade”—and to explore its significance in the global tech landscape.
