Arnesov vseslovenski HackathON

Arnes’ nationwide Hackathon is in full swing

This year, Arnes, in co-organisation with the Slovenian Society Informatika (SDI), the OPSI Portal, the Slovenian Open Science Community, the National Competence Centre for Supercomputing NCC SLING, UL FRI and the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, presents the first Arnes nationwide Hackathon.

Nearly 80 students from all over Slovenia take part in HackathON

The first Arnes nationwide HackathON attracted great interest across Slovenia, with 22 teams and a total of 79 students from various universities, both public and private. The application period, which ran from 1 to 15 March 2024, also attracted a significant number of participants from the humanities and social sciences. With this rich variety of participants from different fields of study, we hope to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration and the search for innovative solutions.

The competition will be held in two rounds

From 25 to 27 March 2024, HackathON participants will first attend a series of training sessions on supercomputing, under the auspices of the National Competence Centre SLING, open science and science communication. The real challenge will start on 4 April 2024, with the first round taking place at the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics (UL FRI). Teams will be asked to develop a conceptual design for a solution to their chosen challenge, describing the methodology, describing the set of open data they will use, defending the solution from a societal perspective, and making a link to UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals. The second round of the competition will be more practical and will take place between 14 and 15 May 2024 in Portorož as part of the Slovenian Informatics Days conference.

HackathON, which gathers

The purpose of the Arnes HackathON is to bring together different disciplines, not only within the STEM field, but also in collaboration with the social sciences and humanities, and we also want to bring together students from different Slovenian universities. Diversity and collaboration are the elements that ensure that we will be able to better connect knowledge with the solutions that students will propose at HackathON.
