Slovenian National Supercomputing Network

Applications Open for Arnes HackathON

Arnes HackathON returns for its third edition, this time focusing on the use of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing to tackle challenges across four thematic areas:

  • AI for Science
  • UI Health and Biotechnology
  • AI for a Digital Society
  • AI for the Green Transition

HackathON is open to all Slovenian students until 6 March 2026.

The first round of the competition will take place on 17 March 2026 at the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics, University of Ljubljana. The second round will follow on 15 April 2026 at the Slovenian Informatics Days conference at the Bernardin Hotel in Portorož.

Arnes HackathON is not designed as a 24-hour event, as it allows participants to work on their challenges continuously between the two phases. This approach encourages more refined solutions and the thoughtful use of supercomputing resources and open data.
A total prize fund of €10,000 is available for the most innovative solutions.

All key information is available on the HackathON website.

Hackathon 2026 is held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, and under the honorary patronage of the Slovenian Commission for UNESCO.

The event is organised by the Slovenian Society INFORMATIKA, the Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Factory (SLAIF), Arnes, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science UL, the Ministry for Digital Transformation, and the OPSI Portal. Last year, more than 90 competitors participated in 28 teams.

Support in the field of supercomputing—through workshops, mentoring, jury participation, and access to supercomputers—is also provided by members of the SLING consortium.
