{"id":18661,"date":"2025-06-03T10:45:36","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T08:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sling.si\/uncategorized\/austrian-slovenian-hpc-meeting-2025-ashpc25-successfully-concluded\/"},"modified":"2025-06-03T10:45:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T08:45:37","slug":"austrian-slovenian-hpc-meeting-2025-ashpc25-successfully-concluded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sling.si\/en\/news\/austrian-slovenian-hpc-meeting-2025-ashpc25-successfully-concluded\/","title":{"rendered":"Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting 2025 \u2013 ASHPC25 successfully concluded"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting &#8211; ASHPC25 <\/strong>&#8211; took place in Rimske terme from 19 to 22 May 2025, continuing the tradition of annual meetings dedicated to High-Performance Computing (HPC), with its origins in Austria (2015) and joint Austrian-Slovenian meetings from 2021 onwards.  <\/p>\n\n<p>ASHPC25 brought together around <strong>140 participants from 10 countries<\/strong> (Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Slovakia, UK, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, UK). The event aimed to bring together users and providers of large-scale computing resources in the fields of academic and industrial research and development. <\/p>\n\n<p>The main part of the conference, which took place from 20 to 22 May, featured <strong>5 invited speakers<\/strong>:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>dr. Dan Alistarh (ISTA, Austria)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dr. Sam Hatfield (ECMWF, Great Britain)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dr. Alessandro Laio (SISSA, Italy)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dr. Erwin Laure (TUM &amp; MPCDF, Germany)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dr. Jan \u0160untajs (IJS, Slovenia)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Their lectures addressed topical issues such as <strong>machine learning, energy-efficient algorithms, climate modelling, numerical weather prediction, molecular simulations, data analysis, parallel and distributed computing, and quantum physics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The event received 60 submissions, more than half of which were presented in<strong>nine thematic blocks.<\/strong> The programme was further enriched by a special parallel session, the <em>Container<\/em><em> For<\/em><em>u<\/em><em>m<\/em>, organised by the \u201cJo\u017eef Stefan\u201d Institute.  <\/p>\n\n<p>On the first day of the conference, <strong>19 May<\/strong>, there was also a meeting of representatives of <strong>Central European HPC Competence Centres<\/strong>, followed by the panel<em> EuroHPC Ecosystem: How to get access for HPC and AI.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>New features of this year&#8217;s meeting included <strong>two roundtable discussions<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Achieving <\/em><em>Gender Balance in HPC<\/em> addressed gender balance issues in the HPC research environment on Tuesday,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>AI <\/em><em>Factory <\/em>took place on Wednesday, with a focus on setting up AI factories in Italy, Slovenia and Austria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The event was organised by the national competence centres for supercomputing, big data and artificial intelligence NCC Austria and NCC SLING Vienna Scientific Cluster (Austria), Research Area Scientific Computing &#8211; Universit\u00e4t Innsbruck (Austria), Institute of Science and Technology Austria (Austria), the SLING consortium and the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia.<\/p>\n\n<p>ASHPC25 reaffirmed its role as a key platform for <strong>networking<\/strong>, <strong>knowledge sharing<\/strong> and <strong>building international collaboration<\/strong> v svetu superra\u010dunalni\u0161tva, odprte znanosti in umetne inteligence. in the world of supercomputing, open science and artificial intelligence.
