On Tuesday, February 27th, an online event titled “Revolutionizing Medicine and Healthcare: The Power of HPC, AI, and ML for Advanced Medical Solutions<\/strong>” convened, targeting researchers and industry professionals in the medicine and health sectors. The event aimed to shed light on the transformative potential of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern healthcare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenters emphasized the crucial synergy between technology and medicine, showcasing how HPC and AI play pivotal roles in advancing medical frontiers, optimizing patient outcomes, and revolutionizing the landscape of eHealth applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized by NCC SLING<\/strong> and commenced with opening remarks from Tina \u010crnigoj Marc from Arctur,<\/strong> who served as the moderator. She introduced the EUROCC 2<\/strong><\/a> project, NCC SLING<\/strong><\/a>, and highlighted the primary roles of 32 National Competence Centers across Europe in assisting businesses, research institutions, and public administrations in fostering HPC and state-of-the-art technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural presentation was delivered by Samo Er\u017een<\/strong>, a Senior Research Engineer and expert in Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning at Arctur<\/strong> in Slovenia. Mr. Er\u017een introduced the EU-funded R&D project CLASSICA<\/strong>, which aims to integrate AI technology into operating theatres for cancer classification, with a specific focus on colorectal cancer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Mr. Er\u017een’s presentation, Dr. Myrianthi Hadjicharalambou<\/strong>, the scientific coordinator, and Dr. Charalambo Chrysostomou<\/strong>, an associate research scientist with expertise in advanced machine learning and data-driven applications, both from the Cyprus Institute (NCC Cyprus)<\/strong>, showcased several success stories from the health sector. What’s the Condition of Your Heart? Marjan Gusev<\/strong> from Innovation Dooel (NCC North Macedonia)<\/strong> provided insight into the solution offered by Innovation Dooel. This solution aims to prevent severe heart damage through long-term real-time heart monitoring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing the event, Dr. Panagiotis Papadimitroulas<\/strong>, co-founder and Head of the Software Department at BIOEMTECH<\/strong>, presented a case study on Nuclear Medicine Dosimetry. His presentation delved into offering clinicians the ability to assess internal pediatric dosimetry and optimize Nuclear Medical Imaging clinical protocols through personalized prediction models. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event concluded with the presentation of the QUSTom projec<\/strong>t, designed to revolutionize breast cancer diagnosis and screening through supercomputing-based radiation-free imaging. Ana Mar\u00eda Rodriguez<\/strong>, Head of Women Imaging at the Breast Cancer Center in Vall d\u2019Hebron Hospital<\/strong>, and Jan Harej<\/strong>, Head of Research and Development at Arctur<\/strong>, provided valuable insights into this research project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
